UK Conservatives Vow Trump-Like Cuts to Aid and Civil Service

The UK’s main opposition Conservative Party promised to slash spending on welfare, foreign aid and the civil service in a bid to re-establish its credentials as a sound steward of the economy 15 months after being ejected from power.

Tory Shadow Chancellor Mel Stride said any future Tory government would lower state spending by £47 billion ($63 billion) by cutting a quarter of civil service employees, halving international development aid and finding £23 billion of savings from the welfare bill.
