Tax Officials Scrutinizing Ethical, Transparency Risks in AI Use

Businesses and tax administrations are closely monitoring risks using artificial intelligence—from tools generating incorrect answers to a lack of transparency—that need oversight from several departmental teams.

“Tax administrations really have to think about fairness and transparency in AI tools,” said Paul Marsh, adviser to the Forum on Tax Administration’s Secretariat at the OECD. “It’s important because we need to maintain trust in the public tax system, and if we don’t do that, then the political appetite for efficiencies will fall away.”
