The Taiwanese Ministry of Finance March 18 explained loss deduction rules for the acquiring company after a merger. The explanation includes that: 1) the acquiring company can’t deduct losses incurred in previous years by the acquired company upon a merger; and 2) the acquiring company can deduct its own previous years’ accumulated losses from current year profits.
