Republican Lawmakers Seek U.S. Response to French Digital Tax

A group of 15 Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee urged the White House to “use all appropriate tools,” potentially including trade responses, in response to taxes France and other countries are proposing for digital companies.

Such proposals would hit many U.S. tech companies, which makes them discriminatory and erodes the U.S. tax base, the group said. “We cannot sit by while these countries fund their government spending by seizing revenue that does not belong to them,” the group, led by Rep. Darin LaHood (R-Ill.), said in an April 3 letter to President Donald Trump.
