Reeves Says ‘Damaging’ UK Budget Leaks ‘Clearly Not Authorized’

Rachel Reeves slammed “damaging” leaks ahead of her UK budget last month, and said they were unauthorized, as she sought to distance herself from a chaotic run-up to the Nov. 26 setpiece.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer said a leak inquiry into elements of the budget and Treasury thinking that were published by the press in the weeks before the budget is looking at ministers, advisers and officials.

Central to that probe is a Financial Times story on Nov. 13 that Reeves had abandoned an election manifesto-breaching plan to raise income tax and increase her so-called headroom.
