Prioritize Simplifying Tax, Group Urges New UK Treasury Minister

The UK must adopt a more coherent approach to tax simplification before prioritizing new digital services, a tax professional body told the country’s new tax minister Thursday.

Tax professionals face “significant problems” with His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs’ performance, with agents lacking access to key digital services, Graham Batty, president of the Association of Taxation Technicians, wrote in a letter to Dan Tomlinson, the newly appointed exchequer secretary to the UK Treasury.

The ATT raised concerns about the absence of clear delivery timelines for initiatives outlined in HMRC’s transformation roadmap released in July.
