OECD Sees Tax Agencies Rapidly Increasing Their Use of AI

Tax administrations’ use of artificial intelligence has “rocketed” over a seven-year stretch to increase efficiency in taxpayer services, support analytical work, and improve case work selection, according to a new report.

About 69% of tax administrations in 2023 reported using AI in some form, up from just 9% in 2016, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said Monday.

The body’s 13th Tax Administration report analyzed the evolution of tax administration in 58 advanced and emerging economies using data up to the end of the 2023 fiscal year.
