The Trump administration and New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ (D) plan to open an immigration office on Rikers Island is illegal, a Manhattan judge ruled Monday.
The ruling follows raids conducted by federal immigration agents across Boston and nearby communities, with a potential crackdown against Chicago looming.
“There’s no question that Adams’ participation represented a conflict of interest,” and the mayor’s “failure to recuse himself fully tainted the entire process” by which the plan was issued, New York Supreme Court Justice Mary Rosado said.
