Norway to Exempt Firms Subject to Emissions Trade From CO2 Tax

Norway government will abolish obligation to pay carbon tax for businesses that are subject to EU emissions quotas, effective March 1, according to website statement.

  • Says the exemption is introduced after dialog with EFTA surveillance authority
  • Says “many companies have had to pay twice for the same emissions” to meet the requirements of the state aid regulations
  • Changes will not affect the fulfillment of Norway’s climate commitments
