EU countries haven’t dismissed new taxes from the EU’s next budget, Ireland’s EU Affairs Minister Thomas Byrne said Wednesday.
Taxes on online gambling, crypto assets, and digital services are “still in the mix,” he said, despite their omission from the latest budget proposal published last week.
“There’s certainly technical work going on at the moment to examine those proposals,” he said.
It will be up to Ireland, which takes over the EU’s rotating presidency, to shepherd the proposal through the bloc’s legislative process to get the next seven-year budget, which will start in 2028, over the line.
