Kenya Names Nyawanda Acting Head of Revenue Agency (1)

Kenya Revenue Authority has appointed Lilian Nyawanda as acting head of the tax collection agency.

She replaces Humphrey Wattanga, who was commissioner general for nearly three years and has “proceeded on terminal leave effective immediately,” according to an emailed statement.

President William Ruto has nominated Wattanga as Kenya’s high commissioner to South Africa, his spokesperson said on X late Wednesday.

Nyawanda currently serves as commissioner for the customs and border control department.

The revenue authority has struggled to meet tax targets despite Ruto’s administration introducing a slew of levies since taking office in 2022.
