Japan Plans Tax Expansion on Super-Rich, NHK Says

Japan’s government and ruling parties are making arrangements to expand the scope of taxation for the super-rich, public broadcaster NHK reports without attribution.

  • Plan to widen the relevant tax bracket from annual income of 3b yen and above to 600m yen and above
  • See number of people subject increasing from ~200-300 to ~2,000
  • Tax seen applying to income from fiscal 2027
