Irish Elections to Showcase Voter Anger After Fuel Protests

Ireland is about to get another lesson in how quickly its political landscape is shifting in two elections on Friday on opposite sides of the country.

Just weeks after parts of the country were brought to a standstill by protests over rising fuel prices, the votes will show how far growing resentment with the incumbent center-right coalition is pushing voters further to the left and right.

Reflecting the level of anti-government sentiment, among the candidates tapping into the mood are a supporter of the recent fuel blockades, and a gangland figure linked to organized crime.
