Inflation, Rates Still Obstacles to Clear in EU Energy Tax Bill

EU ambassadors on Wednesday will be tasked with resolving thorny issues that are keeping countries from finalizing a controversial bill that would overhaul the way the bloc taxes fuel and electricity.

Those issues include when new tax rates will apply to liquefied natural gas and at what rate; whether tax rates on fuel and electricity ought to rise with inflation; and how the bill treats fuels for aviation and maritime sectors, according to a document dated Oct. 31 and seen by Bloomberg.
