Harris to Steer Irish Economy as Trump Trade Threat Looms (1)

Ireland’s deputy prime minister, Simon Harris, will take over the finance ministry after the surprise resignation of Paschal Donohoe to join the World Bank.

The role gives Harris control of a relatively strong fiscal position, as Ireland is one of the few countries in the European Union running a budget surplus. But given those finances are built in part on tax revenue from US companies with operations in Ireland, the country is vulnerable to shifts in US trade and tax policy by Donald Trump.
