Grassley Asks IRS Why Agency Didn’t Collect Taxes From Rich

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley is asking the Internal Revenue Service about its tax enforcement processes after a watchdog report found that it had failed to collect $45.7 billion from nearly 900,000 high-income individuals.

  • “I would like to understand how the IRS was aware of so many instances of taxpayer noncompliance without ever having attempted to collect from such taxpayers,” Grassley said in a letter Thursday
    • Note: The letter is in response to a Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration report looking at tax non-compliance from 2014-2016
