European countries won’t expand their digital services taxes as long as they rely on the US for security, a former US Treasury official predicted Friday.
“The reason we’ll never have a DST is because Europe doesn’t know how to defend its citizenry,” said Itai Grinberg, a former Treasury deputy assistant secretary who took part in international tax negotiations at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The perspective of the US administration is: “I hear you need help with Ukraine. So don’t do certain things,” he added.
