California Governor Signs Law Amends Tax Code for Property Tax Relief Near Chiquita Canyon Landfill

The California Governor signed a law amending the Revenue and Taxation Code, to provide property tax relief for properties located within a five-mile radius of the Chiquita Canyon Landfill in Los Angeles County affected by the elevated temperature landfill event. The law requires reassessment of affected properties to reflect the decline in value, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2022, and extends tax payment deadlines to April 10, 2030, for qualifying properties.
