Brazil Politics: Talks Resume But IOF Tax Deal Remains Elusive

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad met with congressional leaders Tuesday in an attempt to reach a compromise on a dispute over so-called IOF taxes, but the results were inconclusive, according to O Globo.

It was the first meeting between Haddad, lower house Speaker Hugo Motta and Senate chief Davi Alcolumbre since the crisis began with the congressional overturn of a government decree seeking to raise taxes on some financial transactions, the report said.
