Brazil Politics: Government Eyes Higher Civil Servant Wage Hike

Brazil’s government is considering a higher civil servant wage hike of 9% and is studying whether there is room to grant further increases in benefits, such as daycare assistance, newspaper O Globo reported, without mentioning how it obtained the information.

The government’s first proposal was for a readjustment of 7.8% for all executive branch workers. But, the unions that represent the civil servants rejected the offer. They made a counter-proposal of 13.5% and asked for the government efforts to equalize benefits with the other branches by 2026, the report said.
