White House Ballroom Design Approved Despite Court Order

A federal agency issued final approval for the White House ballroom project Thursday — despite a court order days earlier that halted construction, and tens of thousands of public comments critical of the project.

In explaining its decision to move forward, the National Capital Planning Commission said that the judge’s ruling enjoins construction, not planning. But the disconnect highlights the Trump administration’s persistent commitment to rubberstamp the project against all headwinds.
