Virginia Supreme Court Allows Redistricting Election to Proceed

The Virginia Supreme Court will allow a Democratic-led campaign to redraw the state’s congressional map to continue as it considers the merits of the proposed redistricting referendum.

The court said Friday it won’t block a April 21 election on a proposed state constitutional amendment that would authorize the Democratic legislature to revise boundaries before the November election. In Virginia, a constitutional amendment requires approval by a majority of voters in a statewide election after approval by the legislature.
