A bipartisan pair of US senators are launching a probe into several Chinese automakers, seeking information about their activity in US markets and ties with the Chinese government amid Congress’ growing national security concerns over threats posed by connected cars.
As Chinese-made electric vehicles continue to flood the global automakers market, Sens. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) said they were “deeply concerned” that data acquired from technology in the cars could be leveraged by the Chinese Communist Party “for nefarious purposes.”
