A federal judge in Minnesota handed UnitedHealthcare a split decision in its defense against a lawsuit that claimed the insurance giant used an artificial intelligence algorithm to wrongfully deny medical coverage to elderly people under its Medicare managed care policies.
In an opinion and order filed Thursday in the US District Court for the District of Minnesota, Judge John R. Tunheim dismissed with prejudice four counts against UnitedHealthcare alleging unjust enrichment, insurance bad faith, negligence, and unfair and deceptive insurance practices.
