Ukraine attacked another Russian refinery just as Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump are poised to meet in Alaska on Friday to discuss a potential ceasefire.
The strike on the Syzran refinery, located in Samara region about 850 kilometers (530 miles) from Ukraine’s border with Russia, is at least the fifth in the past week on key Russian energy infrastructure.
“A fire and explosions were recorded” after the attack, the General Staff in Kyiv said in a Facebook post. The facility produces a wide range of fuels, including aviation kerosene. It also supplies Russia’s armed forces, according to the statement.
