December 6, 2025, 6:27 PM UTC

White House Budget Director Russell Vought says he is “optimistic” that Congress will pass appropriations bills that would avoid another government shutdown beginning Jan. 30.

  • The administration is doing “everything we possibly can do to prevent that, trying to get these appropriations bills done, giving flexibility to positions that we’ve had to try to get something done by that deadline,” Vought says at Reagan National Defense Forum
  • Vought says he’s “hoping” Democrats will work with Republicans
