Trump Wades Into Overseas Conflicts as Domestic Concerns Grow

President Donald Trump, beset with voter concerns about the cost of living and a Congress mired in spending disputes, is closing out the year seeking to advance peace deals abroad.

Trump campaigned on his reputation as a dealmaker. He promised to end the conflict in Ukraine in one day, and sought recognition for his administration’s work brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. During his year-end getaway to Mar-a-Lago, Trump held back-to-back high-stakes meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
