The Republican-controlled House voted to sustain Donald Trump’s vetoes of two pieces of legislation despite concerns among some lawmakers from both parties that the president’s actions amounted to acts of retribution.
Both bills were sponsored by Republicans and had wide bipartisan support when they passed the House last year, but GOP leaders succeeded Thursday in marshaling enough Republicans to back Trump’s veto.
A two-thirds majority is required to override a veto.
