Trump Doesn’t Want Cooperation from Congress. He Wants Control.

President Donald Trump sent Congress a firm reminder Wednesday: I’m in charge.

The president’s sudden intervention in the long-simmering dispute over how to pass his agenda on Capitol Hill, and his support for House Republicans’ plan over the Senate GOP approach, arrived without a heads up to Senate leaders, and with typical brute force.

“Did not see that one coming,” said Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.).

He spoke as senators planned to begin a long legislative slog on the Senate floor Thursday, but shortly after Trump publicly undercut those plans with a post on social media.
