Trump Administration to Move Education HQ in Downsizing Push

The US Education Department — already hollowed out through President Donald Trump’s attempts to dismantle the agency — is planning a move to smaller offices in downtown Washington, part of a broader push to shrink the federal government’s real estate footprint.

The department, which has shed more than 40% of its workforce over the past year, is expected to relocate just a block away, but to a space that’s 300,000 square feet (28,000 square meters) smaller than its current headquarters. The move is estimated to save about $4.8 million annually.
