TotalEnergies Wind Deal Gets Fresh Scrutiny From Key Democrat

A Senate Democrat is calling for more details on the Trump administration’s deal to pay nearly $1 billion to a French energy giant to cancel its US offshore wind projects.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), the ranking member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, in a Thursday letterquestioned the legality of the deal between the Department of Interior and TotalEnergies, which has also received scrutiny from House Democrats.

“Several unanswered questions about this deal raise serious legal concerns, including for Total,” Whitehouse wrote in the letter to the company’s CEO, Patrick Pouyanné.
