A Democratic House district in Texas vacant for almost a year finally will be filled after an election this week, cutting the House Republican majority to one of its tightest yet in the 119th Congress.
Democrats Amanda Edwards, a former Houston city councilwoman, and Christian Menefee, a former elected Harris County Attorney, are competing in a Jan. 31 runoff in Texas’ Houston-area 18th District to complete the term of the late Sylvester Turner (D), who died last March after just two months in office.
