Senators Unveil Plan to Combat Child Online Exploitation, Abuse

Senators introduced a bipartisan legislative package Tuesday that aims to hold offenders accountable for exploiting children online and strengthen protections for victims.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and ranking member Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) unveiled three bills that would update existing sentencing guidelines to better target child predators, prohibit individuals from coercing children into physically harming themselves or others, and criminalize threats to distribute child sexual abuse material to extort children. The bills are titled the Sentencing Accountability for Exploitation Act, Ending Coercion of Children and Harm Online Act, and Stop Sextortion Act.
