The Pentagon would have $852 billion, or $21.7 billion more than President Donald Trump requested for fiscal 2026, under legislation the Senate Appropriations Committee advanced Thursday.
The panel also backed the Pentagon’s plan to curtail the Air Force’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter purchases and the Army’s plan to halt its light tank and Joint Light Tactical Vehicle programs.
The bill, which represents an increase is a 2.6% increase from the budget request, doesn’t include military construction funds, which are part of the Pentagon budget but under a different panel’s jurisdiction.
