Senate Democrats Plan Nutrition, Housing Amendments
Today’s markup of the Senate’s budget resolution is a chance for Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) to race ahead of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) in the intra-GOP reconciliation sprint.
It’s also a rare opportunity for Democrats to throw up barriers.
Democrats plan to offer amendments creating procedural hurdles aimed to protect nutrition aid, housing vouchers, and other priorities, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) told Bloomberg Government yesterday. If adopted, those provisions would create procedural barriers called points of order within the budget resolution.
