Senate GOP Leader Plans to Move on Rule Change to Speed Nominees

Senate Republicans plan to move this week on a change to the chamber’s rules to confirm President Donald Trump’s nominees in bulk over the objections of Democrats.

Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) will start the procedural steps to revamp the Senate’s rules when the chamber reconvenes Monday, setting up a path for them to vote this week.

The change would allow multiple nominees to be confirmed at once instead of voting on each nomination. Republicans are planning to rewrite the rules with a simple majority vote, a partisan approach known as going nuclear.
