The White House invited several Senate Democrats to discuss the looming government funding deadline, but lawmakers rejected the request.
A senior White House official confirmed the invitation to Bloomberg Government and said the Democrats were asked to come to “a listening session” to get a sense of where they stand ahead of the Jan. 30 deadline. The official added that it was “unfortunate” Democratic leadership blocked the meeting.
Senate Democrats have been demanding a series of changes to Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations after two deadly shootings in Minnesota.
