Senate Democrats Advance Rebuke of HHS Rule With GOP Support

Several Republican senators joined with Democrats Wednesday to criticize the Department of Health and Human Services for limiting public input — a rare, bipartisan rebuke of controversial HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The Senate narrowly voted, 50-49, on a procedural motion to advance a disapproval resolution from Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) to repeal a Trump administration decision to waive public comment periods on some proposed changes to HHS programs and policies. The Congressional Review Act allows Congress to block certain regulations with a simple majority, but it’s more rare for one from the minority to advance.
