Senate Panel to Probe 340B Drug Program

The Senate health committee will hold a hearing today on a drug discount program that has drawn scrutiny over whether it benefits low-income and uninsured patients.

The 340B Drug Pricing Program requires drugmakers to provide discounts for facilities that serve low-income and uninsured communities. The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee’s hearing comes as the safety-net initiative has ballooned in recent years, making it the second largest federal drug program in the US.
