Senate Blocks Bid to Revive Automatic Work Permit Extensions

A Trump administration rule ending automatic extensions for work permits overcame a congressional challenge Thursday.

The Senate rejected, 47-50, a motion to take up a resolution (S. J. Res. 99) that would have repealed the Department of Homeland Security’s interim final rule using the Congressional Review Act. The law allows lawmakers to overturn regulations with a simple majority and enables the minority party to force votes in the Senate.
