Senate Appropriators Propose Cut to IRS, Fiscal 2027 DC Fix

Funding for the Internal Revenue Service would be cut by $481 million compared to fiscal 2025 under a bill released by Senate appropriators Monday, bringing funding for the tax agency to roughly $11.8 billion.

Senate appropriators proposed the change in a fiscal 2026 financial services and general government funding bill. The bill would increase funds for taxpayer services and take them from technology and operations support, according to the committee report.
