Republican Health Bill Passes House as Defectors Join Democrats

House Republicans eked out passage of a health-care bill meant to paper over expiring Obamacare subsidies that sparked intra-caucus turmoil.

The legislation (H.R. 6703) Republicans backed in a 216-211 vote Wednesday includes transparency requirements for pharmacy benefit managers, funding for cost-sharing reductions, and language promoting other health options such as association health plans. It’s an attempt by GOP leaders to address rising health-care costs with a higher tier of Affordable Care Act subsidies set to expire at the end of this year.
