Nadler’s Exit Means House Will Lose Its Public Transit Champion

Public transportation will lose one of its most vocal champions in Congress after Rep. Jerry Nadler announced he will retire at the end of 2026 to make way for a new generation of party leadership after more than three decades in Washington.

The Manhattan Democrat reached national prominence while chairing the House Judiciary Committee during the first impeachment of Republican President Donald Trump. But Nadler’s support for transit and infrastructure projects in New York could be his most lasting legacy.
