California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) will visit Washington on Thursday to push for federal funds to help the Los Angeles area recover from wildfires earlier this year.
The federal government provided more than $2 billion in the immediate aftermath of the fires, which killed at least 31 people and destroyed more than 16,000 structures.
Further federal assistance has stalled, according to Newsom’s office, which says the White House has not taken any action on recovery proposals since an initial request for California in February.
