A California government agency will certify union elections and handle other private-sector labor disputes in the state in the absence of federal action, under legislation Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed Tuesday.
Labor unions urged Newsom to sign the measure (AB 288), which would allow workers and their unions to take elections and unfair labor practice charges to the state’s Public Employment Relations Board in certain circumstances.
