Newark Sees Flight Delays as Government Shutdown Drags (1)

The US Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground delay Wednesday for flights inbound to Newark Liberty International Airport due to air traffic control staffing constraints.

The delay is scheduled to remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. New York time, with planes waiting about 68 minutes on average, according to an FAA advisory.

The FAA also temporarily halted flights from Washington-area airports into LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday due to volume capacity. That so-called ground stop is expected to lift at 2:45 p.m. New York time.
