New York Looks for First-in-Nation Fertility Coverage Expansion

New York Democrats are gaining ground in pushing the Empire State to be the first in the US to require commercial insurers to more broadly cover fertility services.

State Sen. Michelle Hinchey (D) has sponsored legislation (S. 4497) that would compel employer-sponsored insurance plans to include as a standard benefit fertility services such as egg and sperm freezing, which she argues would widely expand access to reproductive health care.

Hinchey said fertility preservation services are currently inaccessible to residents unless they are considered infertile because of a medical treatment such as cancer, independently wealthy, or work for a private company ...
