Mullin Aims to Lower DHS Profile Amid Immigration Crackdown

Homeland Security Secretary-nominee Markwayne Mullin pledged to get the agency out of the news even as he signaled plans to continue the Trump administration’s aggressive immigration crackdown.

“My goal in six months is that we’re not in the lead story every day,” Mullin said Wednesday at his Senate confirmation hearing.

Helping Mullin lower the Department of Homeland Security’s profile is the departure of his polarizing predecessor Kristi Noem, as well as Greg Bovino, the Border Patrol commander at large who led a series of incursions into US cities that have receded for the moment.
