Some of the nation’s most far-reaching measures that would regulate artificial intelligence to protect public safety and provide protections in the workplace were narrowed by a California legislative panel Friday.
The state Senate and Assembly appropriations committees considered the AI bills in lightning-fast markups where they acted on hundreds of measures that originated in the other legislative chamber. Appropriators reviewed all legislation with fiscal impact against the state’s finances. The process allows lawmakers to quietly kill bills before the session adjourns Sept. 12.
