Lawmakers Sidestep Trump to Forge Bipartisan Energy Permits Path

President Donald Trump’s attacks on clean-energy projects may well inject much-needed momentum into the effort to overhaul federal permitting, some congressional leaders involved in the effort say.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, the top Democrat on the Environment and Public Works Committee, is warning that Trump’s moves to delay or cancel renewable energy funding and projects undermine bipartisan talks to improve permitting for energy and infrastructure. His Republican colleagues understand that position and are raising the issue with the White House, the Rhode Island senator said Tuesday in an exclusive interview with Bloomberg Government.
